BENITO E. FLORES

Dr. Benito E. Flores earned a Ph.D. in Managerial Economics from the University of Houston. His teaching career began in 1962 and continued until his retirement in 2008. He has served in many administrative positions over the years; Department Head for Monterrey Institute of Technology and Asst. Department Head for the Department of Information & Operations Management (INFO) at Texas A&M University (TAMU). He also served as Program Director-Graduate School, Monterrey Institute of Technology. He held the Tenneco Professorship in Business from 2001 until his retirement. He became Professor Emeritus at the Mays Business School at TAMU in 2008.

 

He was professor of Industrial Engineering at Monterrey Institute of Technology from 1967-1976.

He had international experience as a visiting professor for the summers of 2004, 2006, and 2007 in the campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain. Also, he taught short courses for the American Graduate School of International Business (Thunderbird) in their Guadalajara, Mexico campus 2001-2002.  Also teaching in Costa Rica, Barcelona, Mexico (Puebla, Monterrey, Guadalajara), and Puerto Rico. In addition he taught short courses for their MBA program at the University of the Americas 1995-2003. He has been a Visiting Professor at Indiana University, Bloomington (1983-84) and Industrial Engineering at Stanford, CA the summers of 1971-72.

 

AWARDS AND HONORS

 

Throughout, Prof. Flores has received awards such as the Clayton Fund Foreign Scholarship,

Texas A&M University, 1958-1960.

 

In addition, he was invited to join Alpha Pi Mu - Industrial Engineering Honorary Society,

Texas A&M University. Omicron Delta Epsilon - Economics Honorary Society, University of Houston.

 

The MAYS Business Faculty awarded him a Research Award – Mays College of Business 2001-2002

 

In 2001 he was elected Fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute.

 

INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE

 

Prof. Flores combined the academic life with the business experience. He worked for B.F. Goodrich for a year  (1967); for HYL (steel company) (1-82/8-83) as Executive Vice-President, Administration; Vice-President, Strategic Planning (2-79/12-81); and Manager of Human Resources Planning and Development(11-76/1-79).
